What is the Ernst-Achilles-Award 2022
The Ernst-Achilles-Award 2022 recognizes final theses (Master & Bachelor) or dissertations, theses that deal with outstanding innovations in the field of fire protection. This year the focus is on fire protection of new energy sources such as lithium batteries, hydrogen and gas. Nevertheless, papers that deal with general fire protection issues may still be submitted. The aim is to promote and recognize innovative performance in the sector and to inspire young talents for fire protection. In addition to the quality of the work, relevance and the benefit for potential users are criteria for evaluating the work.
The following prize money will be awarded:
1st place: 3.500 EUR
2nd place: 2.500 EUR
3rd place: 1.500 EUR
The general submission criterias are:
- Graded theses (Bachelor, Master, PhD)
- Language: German or English
- Grading must be done in 2021 or 2022
- The topic dealt with must be related to fire protection in the broadest sense or be applicable to it and also be innovative.
- Only works submitted until September 30th, 2022 will be considered.
- Works that have already been submitted in 2021 cannot be considered again
Submissions are made using the online form on this website. The following documents must be submitted for full participation:
- Scientific work in pdf format
- Brief description of the work (max. 2 A4 pages)
- CV
- Proof of grading
- evtl. granted patents

Who was Ernst Achilles?
Ernst Achilles is considered a pioneer in preventive fire protection and a pioneer in medical emergency rescue by the fire brigade. As head of the Frankfurt fire brigade and university lecturer for many years, he has significantly shaped German fire protection to this day with new ideas and solutions and is thus a representative of the spirit of further developing fire protection in Germany.
