Conditions of Participation Ernst Achilles Award 2022

  1. Organizer / Contact Person

The organizer and contact person for the implementation of the Ernst Achilles Award is FOGTEC Brandschutz GmbH, Schanzenstraße 19A, 51063 Cologne (hereinafter referred to as FOGTEC).

  1. Submission Period

The submission period begins on 01.07.2023 and ends on 31.10.2023. A jury will evaluate the submitted works by the beginning of November. The winners will be announced afterwards.

  1. Prize

The participant whose thesis is rated the best receives a prize of 2,500 EUR. The second-placed work is endowed with 1,500 EUR, the third-placed work with 750 EUR. The transfer will be made to the respective winner. The assignment of the profit claim is excluded.

  1. Participation

The Ernst Achilles Award recognizes final theses (Master’s & Bachelor’s), dissertations or postdoctoral theses that deal with outstanding innovations in the field of fire protection. The scientific papers can be proposed by the author himself or herself as well as by others.

The content of the paper should meet the following criteria:

  • Direct reference to the topic area of fire protection AND/OR
  • Applicable to the subject area of fire protection
  • Innovative approach

Submission criteria are:

  • Admitted are graded Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral theses (dissertations / habilitations).
  • Only papers graded in 2022 or 2023 will be considered.
  • In the case of scientific qualification work such as dissertations or post-doctoral theses, the academic procedures must have been completed.
  • The language of the work must be German or English.
  • Only works uploaded in pdf format via the link provided, with the appropriate contact form, will be considered.
  • Work uploaded after 31.10.2023 cannot be considered.
  • Works that have already been submitted in the application phase of the Ernst Achilles Award 2022 cannot be considered again.

The following documents must be submitted for full participation:

  • Scientific thesis / dissertation in pdf format in English or German
  • Short description of the work (max. two DIN A4 pages)
  • Resume or alternatively a complete Xing or LinkedIn profile.
  • Proof of grading
  • Patents granted, if applicable

By submitting the documents and participating in the Ernst Achilles Award, the participant agrees that his/her personal data will be processed on the basis of the German Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO) (see Privacy Policy).
By submitting the documents and participating in the Ernst Achilles Award, the participant agrees that the work will be stored digitally for the duration of the evaluation phase. The participant agrees that pictures taken during the award ceremony may be used by FOGTEC for reporting and internal corporate communication.

him/her do not offend common decency or the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, in particular that they do not violate the property rights of third parties, such as trademark rights, copyrights or personal rights, and that the participant holds the necessary rights to the scientific work in this respect.
In the event of winning, the participant agrees that his/her name may be mentioned in the press and other publications (print and online). Furthermore, he/she gives his/her consent that contents of the work may be disclosed in the reporting.

Notification of the Award will be sent by e-mail.

If the winner does not get back to us within 14 days after sending the notification email, the prize will be forfeited. The claim to the prize is also forfeited if the prize cannot be sent within 6 months after the first notification of the prize for reasons that lie in the person of the winner.

The participant is entitled to demand the deletion or return of his/her work at any time until the expiry of 31.10.2023, which will lead to exclusion from the Ernst Achilles Award. This also revokes the rights granted to FOGTEC. The legal process is excluded for all actions.
After the conclusion of the Ernst Achilles Award, FOGTEC is entitled to archive any sent material for another six months and then destroy it.

  1. Data Protection

Personal information that you voluntarily provide to FOGTEC for the purposes of conducting the award, newsletters and other publications:
Personal information that you voluntarily provide to us, such as on registration pages, will be stored by us. FOGTEC is entitled to transmit the data and information of the selected participants to members of the jury in order to enable the implementation/handling of the prize. After the prize has been carried out, the data will be deleted again.

  1. Early Termination

FOGTEC is entitled to cancel the Ernst Achilles Award in whole or in part if there is an important reason for doing so. An important reason is in particular if the Ernst Achilles Award cannot be carried out according to plan, e.g. for technical and/or legal reasons, which influence the administration, the security, the integrity and/or the regular and orderly execution of the prize.

  1. Other

These conditions of participation may be changed by FOGTEC at any time without separate notification to the participants.

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany shall apply exclusively. Legal recourse is excluded.

Supplements and ancillary agreements must be in writing to be effective.

Should any of these provisions be or become invalid, the validity of the remaining conditions of participation shall not be affected.
