What is the Ernst-Achilles-Award 2023
The Ernst Achilles Prize 2023 honors final theses (Bachelor‘s & Master‘s) as well as dissertations that deal with outstanding innovations around the topic of fire protection in the field of new energy carriers. The aim is to promote and recognize innovative achievements in the sector and to inspire young professionals to work in the field of fire protection. In addition to the quality of the work, the relevance as well as the benefit for potential users are criteria for the evaluation of the work.
The following prize money will be awarded:
1st place: 2.500 EUR
2nd place: 1.500 EUR
3rd place: 750 EUR
The general submission criterias are:
- Graded theses (Bachelor, Master, PhD)
- Language: German or English
- Grading must be done in 2022 or 2023
- The topic must be related or applicable to the fire protection of new energy sources in the broadest sense and must also be innovative.
- Only works submitted until November 30th, 2023 will be considered.
- Works that have already been submitted in 2022 cannot be considered again
Submissions are made using the online form on this website. The following documents must be submitted for full participation:
- Scientific work in pdf format
- Brief description of the work (max. 2 A4 pages)
- CV
- Proof of grading
- evtl. granted patents

Who was Ernst Achilles?
Ernst Achilles is considered a pioneer in preventive fire protection and a pioneer in medical emergency rescue by the fire brigade. As head of the Frankfurt fire brigade and university lecturer for many years, he has significantly shaped German fire protection to this day with new ideas and solutions and is thus a representative of the spirit of further developing fire protection in Germany.
